Program Development

  1. Be a Reader​

    • A single day literacy enrichment event, in which, volunteers go to the Santa Ana Boys and Girls Club and lead activities including: bookmark making, group reading, book display, and mad libs with the children. Books donated by Alpha Phi Omega were given to the children and the remaining books to the Boys and Girls Club.

      •  ​Awarded UC Irvine Student Life Most Outstanding Community Service Program

  2. Be a Scientist

    • A single day science enrichment event focused on the concept of Neuroscience at the Santa Ana Boys and Girls Club. Volunteers would lead activities such as: Mr. Egghead, pipe cleaner neurons, neuron staining, and brain caps. Each o these activities focus on an aspect of Neuroscience; mister egghead teaches the importance of cerebral spinal fluid in protecting the brain, pip cleaner neurons emphasis on the anatomy of neurons, neuron staining explains the concept of immunohistochemistry in identifying structures of the brain, and brain caps teaches the lobes and functions of areas of the brain.

  3. Alumni Lecture Series​

    • A once a month event throughout the academic year, in which alumni brother from Alpha Phi Omega - Rho Rho chapter are allotted 30 minutes to give a lecture on a pre-assigned topic such as Motivation and Leadership, Failure and Perseverance, and Journey. After the allotted speaking time, a Question and Answer session is opened for the audience. Immediately after, a casual social event at a local hot spot meet up to allow general members a more casual environment to ask personalized questions.

  4. Project Kindness

    • A bi-quarterly event, in which volunteers produce 'Kindness Cards' - flash cards with uplifting phrases with an attached candy - and posters with the phrase 'Free Hugs'. Secondary volunteers would be stationed on a location on campus with high foot traffic, in which each volunteer would hold a 'Free Hugs' poster, a basket of 'Kindness Cards' and distribute 'Kindness Cards' and give free hugs to passing students.
